At Seaberg Picture Framing we love EXPO not only for the custom framing we do for the many Chicago art galleries but because our staff truly appreciates the work and intention put into the featured artworks. There are a number of reasons to feel drawn to the artwork at EXPO. Some art carries itself by the weight of the effort and detail involved in its creation, while other works rise to the top on account of its quality or thematic value. No matter what enjoyment you draw from a stroll among the art at Navy Pier, take a look at some of our favorite picks from this weekend.
Portrait
Ever a classic means of immortalizing the artist’s subject, the portrait lets us see them as the artist does whether through a photograph or a more interpretive medium.

The Devil Is In The Details
It can be said that some art is impressive because of the process of its creation. The two examples below show different applications of papercraft, both using careful selection, cutting, and arrangement, in the use of an overall artwork.

From original Abstracts of the 1900s to contemporary explorations of spatial relations and back around to delightfully absurd practical sculptures, there was no lacking in imaginative and curious works.

You’re Just Like Neon
One of our favorite buzzworthy mediums from this year’s EXPO was neon lighting. Used as a sculptural feature, or represented through traditional mediums, the trending use of neon is a stronghold in the modern art community.

High Concept
Whether conveying a socio-political statement about negative impacts on the environment, the naturally changing courses of nature, or representing emotions and ideas through symbolic imagery, high concept artworks like these bring abstract thoughts into clearer focus.
